What MathGeek said was pretty correct except for the area of the circle.
The area of a circle is pi r squared, aka pi*radius to the second power.

So, it should be 192 - 36pi ( the radius would be 6, because radius is half the diameter, and 6 to the second power is 36 ).

:D You're welcome.

Okay, First, Lets Remember The Formulas. Area Of A Rectangle :
B*H.
Area Of A Circle:
R*2*3.14.
16*12 Is The Area Of The Rectangle. 16*12 = 192.
Area Of The Two Semicircles = 6*6*3.14. 6*6 = 36. 36*3.14 =113.04.
Now, 192-113.04 = 78.96 in ^2. Hope This Helps!

Does anyone mind explaining this to me please?
hammer [34]
I don't know about the circle, but from the way it looks, you can use pythagorean theorem (A^2+B^2=C^2). angle E would be the Right Angle making 65=C or in other words, the hypotenuse, with 60 and Line ED being the legs (it doesn't matter  which is A and which is B) leaving the equation

60^2+B^2=65^2 and solve from there. (if you need help solving, leave a comment and i will walk you through it in the comments)

let

x---------> Aviva’s age

y--------->Kanti’s age

z--------> Lakshmi’s age

we know that

y=x-3-----> equation 1

z=2*y-----> equation 2

substitute equation 1 in equation 2

z=2*(x-3)

so

Aviva’s age------> x

Kanti’s age-------> x-3

Lakshmi’s age----> 2*(x-3)

therefore

the answer is the option

b) 2(x-3)
