The y intercept is found by  putting x = 0 and calculating y,  and vice versa.

y intercept:-

3(0) + 8y = 14 ;  8y =14;  so y = 14/8  = 7/4

x intercept:-

3x + 8(0) = 14 ; 3x = 14; x = 14/3
