Answer:

y               = $2610

Step-by-step explanation:

This situation can be modeled with a straight line (that is, by a linear equation):

y = mx + b

The given data consists of two points on this line:  one is (16, $1700), the other (56, $4300).

If we move from the first point to the second, x increases by 40 and y increases by $2600.  Thus, the slope of this line is m = rise / run, or

m = $2600/40, or $65/part

Then the equation of this line, in point-slope format, is

y - 1700 = ($65/part)(x - 16)

Now, if the man sells 30 parts, the following equation gives his earnings:

y - $1700 = ($65/part)(30 - 16), or

y               = $1700 + ($65/part)(14 parts), or

y               = $2610

We need to find the unit rate. To do so, divide the amount of money he makes by the number of parts sold. 1,700 / 16 = 106.25. So, if the man sells one computer part, he gets $106.25. To find the price of 30 parts, multiply 106.25 by 30. 106.25 * 30 = $3,187.50

The man will make $3,187.50 if he sells 30 parts.

Write an equation that is parallel to the line x + 3y = 2 and passes through the point (1, 0).
Nady [450]

Answer:

y = -1/3x + 1/3

Step-by-step explanation:

x+3y=2

3y = 2 - x

y = 2/3 - 1/3x

y = -1/3x +2/3

the slope is -1/3 and the equation that is parallel will have the same slope also

y = mx + b

y = -1/3x + b

0 = -1/3(1) + b

0 = -1/3 + b

1/3 = b

y = -1/3x + 1/3
