When a point gets reflected over x axis, then we see that its y co-ordinate changes its sign.

And, when a point gets reflected over y axis, then its x co-ordinate changes its sign.

That is, if the co-ordinates of a point are (a, b).

Then,

after reflection from x axis, its co-ordinate becomes (a, -b) and

after reflection over y axis, its co-ordinate becomes (-a, b).

The reflections of the point (2, 3) over x-axis and y-axis are shown in the attached figure below.
