How did terraced farming help farmers produce food? Choose two answers.
ycow [4]

Answer:

The steps prevented soil from washing away and made it easier to irrigate crops.

The steps increased the amount of land that farmers could grow crops on.

Explanation:

Terrace farming primary benefit is to reduce the speed  of run off water which leads  usually lead  to erosion therefore conserving land and water.

It is method of farming carried out in mountainous region, where the sloppy nature of the mountain  and the effects of acceleration due to gravity(g),increases the velocity of rain water washing the top soil on the mountain, removing the top soil and therefore washing away the nutrients as wastes.

To reduce the rate of velocity, terraces are built on the slope of the mountain, therefore protecting the topmost soil layer from been washed away by erosion, thus the soil fertility is conserved, and crops could be grown  on the terrace. Therefore by  allowing the  use of sloppy land area of the mountain for farming ,terrace farming    increases the land that the farmers could used for crops propagation. This would have been impossible without the creation of the terraces.

In addition, since the grassed water ways are not needed  for water supply there is maximum land area available  for farming.

Why were the philosophes against the Catholic Church’s role in French politics?
FrozenT [24]

he French Catholic Church, known as the Gallican Church, recognised the authority of the pope as head of the Roman Catholic Church but had negotiated certain liberties that privileged the authority of the French monarch, giving it a distinct national identity characterised by considerable autonomy. France’s population of 28 million was almost entirely Catholic, with full membership of the state denied to Protestant and Jewish minorities. Being French effectively meant being Catholic. Yet, by 1794, France’s churches and religious orders were closed down and religious worship suppressed. How did it come to this? What did revolutionaries hope to achieve? And why did Napoleon set out to reverse the situation?
