In the year of 1893, there was a group of sugar planters and expatriates supported by a division of the us. Marines deposed Queen Liliuokalani, the last reigning monarch of Hawaii. One year later, the Republic of Hawaii was established as a us protectorate with Hawaiian-born Sanford B Dole as president.
The Purpose was to Abolish (Get rid of) Slavery, after the civil war began the "Reconstruction Era" where many people wanted to Reconstruct America after the Civil War, Examples of this was the 13th Amendment (No more Slavery).
On June 29, 1947, as the first president to address the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), Harry Truman pledges his support for upholding the civil rights of all Americans.
