1. Baroque period is characterized by its non standardized sizes, as it the number of players can range between ten to thirty (10-30) This period of orchestra existed between 1600-1760. It is the beginning of orchestra period, and the section of the orchestra during this period are called: woodwind, brass, and strings.
2. Classical period was famous for its relatively large number of its members which is between thirty to sixty (30-60) and its variety in tone colour, with each section of the orchestra having a dedicated role. With its melodic solo, it was developed between 1750 to 1830 and was characterized by its flexible and colourful instrument, such that the composers could entrust their most powerful and dramatic musical conceptions.
3. Romantîc Period: this period of orchestra was developed between 1815 to 1910 characterized with its about 100 players or more, it was distinct with its expansion of formal structure in composition, and was considered to be more passionate and expressive. Most instruments used during this period includes brass and piano
4. Modern period however characterized by its various number of instruments used in its performance, which includes violins, violas, cellos, double basses, clarinet, bassons amongst others. The size of it members can vary but often peak at one hundred (100).
