Answer: The correct answer is option B; 105 inches squared

Step-by-step explanation: Please refer to the attached diagram for details.

The irregular pentagon with five sides has been separated into two regular shapes in order to ease our calculations. Observe carefully and you’ll discover that it consists of a triangle and rectangle combined together.

You now have triangle ABF and rectangle FCDE. Line FC and line ED in the rectangle measure 12 inches while the width line FE and line CD measure 8 inches. Area of the rectangle is calculated as,

Area = L x W

Area = 12 x 8

Area = 96 square inches

Looking at the triangle, the vertical height is 6 inches, that is length 14 minus length 8 taken out of the rectangle. Also the base is 3 inches, that is length 12 minus length 9 (where the triangle is cut out of the irregular polygon). With the height and the base now known, the area of the triangle is calculated as,

Area = 1/2 x (Base x Height)

Area = 1/2 x (3 x 6)

Area = 1/2 x 18

Area = 9 square inches

The area of both parts of the irregular shape added together gives the answer to the question

Area of the irregular pentagon = 96 + 9

Area = 105 inches squared

The graph below describes the journey of a train between two cities
UkoKoshka [18]

Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

To find : Acceleration in first 15 min . Distance between two cities  Average speed of journey

Solution:

Each horizontal block is 1/8 hr = 7.5 min

Each vertical block is 10 km/hr

Time                    Velocity  km/hr

0 Min  ( 0 hr)            0

15 Min (1/4 hr)           50

45 Min (3/4 hr)         50

60 MIn  ( 1 hr)            100

90 Min  ( 3/2 hr)        100

120 Min ( 2hr)            0

Acceleration in first 15 min  (1/4 hr)  =  (50 - 0)/(1/4 - 0)  = 50/(1/4)

= 200  km/h²

Distance between two cities

= (1/2)(0 + 50)(1/4 - 0)  + 50 * (3/4 - 1/4)  + (1/2)(50 + 100)(1 - 3/4)  + 100 * (3/2 - 1) + (1/2)(100 + 0)(2 - 3/2)

=  25/4  + 25 + 75/4   + 50 + 25

= 125

Distance between two cities = 125 km

Average Speed of journey = 125/2  = 62.5  km/hr

Acceleration in first 15 min = 200  km/h²

Distance between two cities = 125 km

Average Speed of journey =  62.5  km/hr

Hope this helps..
