Answer:

A. He was a strong military strategist and general.

Explanation:

George Washington assumed command of the Continental Army on July 3, 1775 after a confrontation with the British at Banker Hill. After successfully expelling the British from Boston, he lost the battle of Long Island in 1776 and withdrew with the army toward Valley Forge, beyond the influence of the British to re-organize and rest his forces.

On December 25, 1776, Washington successfully crossed the Delaware River and defeated the British near Trenton, New Jersey, and afterwards January 3, 1777, at Preston, succeeding in raising morale again to Continental Army soldiers.

Washington commanded troops during the revolution and tied British forces to the center of the country, while General Gates and militia commander Benedict Arnold defeated the British at the most significant battle of Saratoga on October 17, 1777, after which France recognized the United States, and a little later Spain and the Netherlands.

With the help of the French under the command of the Marquis de Lafayette, on October 19, 1781, he defeated the British under General Cornwallis at the Battle of Yorktown, which also marked the end of the war. So, on November 30, 1782, Britain signed a truce and on September 3, 1783, peace at Versailles and recognized the independence of the United States of America.
