An ecological pyramid shows the transfer of energy. As the name suggests pyramid means broad at the base and sharp at the top.The energy distribution in the pyramid is maximum at the base and minimum at the top.

The energy from the sun is absorbed by the producers and then it is transferred to upper side of the pyramid like primary consumer then to secondary consumers and at last to the tertiary consumers.

The energy distribution is as follows:

1. Producer 100%

2. Primary Consumer 10%

3. Secondary Consumer 1%

4. Tertiary Consumer 0.1%
