They made them short so a president would not serve for his lifetime if he wanted to and they made it more than one or two years so there wouldn’t be an election every year(cuz like that people most likely wouldn’t vote )and so the president had enough time to do what he would like to do for the country
elective terms of office were made purposely short seldom more than one or two years because of the tendency of elective officers to run for life and also the conditions for voting-in elective officers where kind of difficult to be maintained,
also it was made short so that elected officers who do not perform very well can be voted out of office in a shorter time by the electorate. and also the short time given will ensure that elected officers perform very well while in office to get a re run
