Well people think that the continents and everything was all in one on this plate called pangea, it existed during late Paleozoic and early Mesozoic. It began to break apart about 175 million years ago, and when it broke the North American plate was created as it became its own continent and so as the others

Large vacuole pushes chloroplasts to the edge of a cell. Chloroplasts at edge enable short diffusion path for carbon dioxide and to absorb maximum light.
