DNA is mainly made up of the nucleotides and also contains genetic information in the genes. Every nucleotide is made up of deoxyribose, nitrogenous base, and phosphate group. DNA is composed of four distinct type of nitrogenous base: cytosine, adenine, guanine, and thymine. The DNA consist two kind of chemical bones in their structure:

  • Covalent bond
  • Hydrogen bond

The nucleotides present in DNA are linked with the corresponding base through hydrogen bonds only. The stability of DNA is due to the presence of covalent bond because these are the strongest bond. Covalent bonds connect the sugar, phosphate group and bases.

The hydrogen bonds mainly present in water, DNA and protein

The cytosine pairs with guanine with three hydrogen bonds. On the other hand the thymine pairs with adenine with two hydrogen bonds.
