Protestant ethic is the beleif that sacred authority called for hard work, saving, thrift, and honesty as necessary for salvation.
Evangelicals believe that one needs to believe and praise Jesus in order to be saved (just being a good person is not enough), and additionally one needs to be "born again" - a spiritual rebirth from the Holy Spirit.
It falls every year on August 27, to mark the birthday of U.S. President Lyndon Baines Johnson. After Johnson died in 1973, the Texas State Legislature created a legal state holiday to be observed every year on August 27 to honor the 36th president of the United States, one of their state's native sons.
