Answer:

\frac{M}{1-0.8} and 5M

Step-by-step explanation:

1. Let's imagine that you have 100 e-mails unread. When you read 80% of these e-mails you have the following amount M unread:

100-(0.8)(100)=20 e-mails

2. If you substitute 20 e-mails into the equations shown above, you will obtain the original amount:

\frac{20}{1-0.8}=100\\5(20)=100

answer :  option A  and B

After reading 80% of her emails in her inbox, Danette still has M unread emails

M unread emails

Let x be the number of emails before reading

80% of emails are left in the box. So, 0.08x  emails are left in the box

Now we make an equation

number of emails - 80% of unread emails= number of unread mails

x  - 0.08x = M

Now we factor out x

x ( 1- 0.08) = M

So x = \frac{M}{1-0.8}

or x = \frac{M}{0.2}= 5M

Izzy had an 82 and an 88 on his first two tests and believed that he did well enough on his final exam to keep his B average. H
Anastaziya [24]

Answer:

73

Step-by-step explanation:

to find the mean you need to add up all grades and divide if by the number of terms you added

(82 + 88 + x) ÷ 3 = 69 (since we don't know the third grade let's call it x)

170 + x = 69 × 3

x = 37

if the digits transposed the the actual grade would be 73

3. Define a variable, write an equation, and solve the problem. Carla began a
faust18 [17]

Answer:

Carla has been running 7 miles each day for 13 days.

Step-by-step explanation:

Carla ran 3 miles on her first day, 5 miles on her second day and then 7 miles each day onward.

Let the number of days she ran 7 miles each day = x

Total distance run by Carla = 3 + 5 + 7(x)

                                             = 8 + 7x

If her log book shows that she has run total distance = 99 miles

Equation representing her total run will be,

8 + 7x = 99

7x = 99 - 8

7x = 91

x = \frac{91}{7}

x = 13 days

Therefore, Carla has been running 7 miles each day for 13 days.
