The Transportation Safety Authority (TSA) has developed a new test to detect large amounts of liquid in luggage bags. Based on m

any test runs, the TSA determines that if a bag does contain large amounts of liquid, there is a probability of 0.93 the test will detect it. If a bag does not contain large amounts of liquid, there is a 0.09 probability the test will conclude that it does (a false positive). Suppose that in reality only 5 in 100 bags actually contain large amounts of liquid.
1.What is the probability a randomly selected bag will have apositive test? Give your answer to four decimal places.

2.Given a randomly selected bag has a positive test, what is theprobability it actually contains a large amount of liquid? Giveyour answer to four decimal places.

3. Given a randomly selected bag has a positive test, what is theprobability it does not contain a large amount of liquid? Give youranswer to four decimal places.

Answer:

1) What is the probability a randomly selected bag will have a positive test = 0.132

2) what is the probability it actually contains a large amount of liquid = 0.3522

3) what is theprobability it does not contain a large amount of liquid = 0.6477

Step-by-step explanation:

The detailed explanation using the bayes rule is as shown in the attachment.

Question 9:

1. Use Pythagorean Theorem (a²+b²=c²) to solve for missing side of triangle and rectangle. x²+16²=20², or x²+256=400. So, x²=144, and x=12

2. Use formula: 1/2(h)(b1+b2). 1/2 (12) (30+14).

3. Simplify: 1/2 (12) (44)=1/2(528)=264

Area of whole figure is 264 square mm.

Question 10:

Literally same thing but with trigonometry.

1. Use sine to find out length of dotted line: sin(60°)=x/12

2: Simplify: 12*sin(60°)=x. x≈10.4 (rounded to the nearest tenth)

3. Use Pythagorean Theorem to find out last leg of triangle: 10.4²+x²=12²

4: Simplify: 108.16 +x²=144. x²=35.84 ≈ 6

5: Use formula: 1/2(h)(b1+b2). 1/2 (10.4) (30+36)

6: Simplify: 1/2 (10.4) (66) =343.2

7: Area of figure is about 343.2

Remember, this is an approximate answer with rounding, so it might not be what your teacher wants. The best thing to do is do it yourself again.

solniwko [45]

Answer: 12 minutes

Step-by-step explanation: Since there are 2 people and 24 minutes total, you have to divide the total time by the amount of people. The equation will be 24=2x, so divide 24 by 2 and you get 12
