I think it’s the exposition!
This part of the excerpt concludes what kind of character Odysseus is:

He is one of the heroes in Homer's epic poem called Odyssey. He was a man that steadfast, brilliant, and versatile. These lines tell of his bravery and that he would be willing to make the necessary sacrifices for the good of all.</span>
You can accomplish more with others than alone because it’s not just 1 mind that’s thinking and processing, it’s multiple. For example, if your doing a math question by yourself you might not know the answer. But, if you have a partner then they might know the answer and can help you answer the question.
Brutus relies heavily on his own conscience and will not agree to do anything unless he completely believes in the cause. This is why it takes so long for Cassius to convince him to kill Caesar. Eventually though, he believes that their cause is right and therefore goes into the murder with a clear conscience.
He also keeps the other men (especially Cassius) in check while planning the murder, because his conscience is so strong. He says "Let us be sacrificers, but not butchers, Caius." He is making sure they stay on track and are doing things for noble reasons, not just blindly killing.
This is why he refuses to let Cassius plan to kill Antony as well as Caesar, because he does not feel Antony has done anything wrong.
It would help to read the poem, but based simply on the word, I would say it is used either in a negative way or inspiring way.
