The literary significance of Rowlandson’s The Narrative of the Captivity and Restoration of Mrs. Mary Rowlandson is that it is the first captivity narrative written by a women.

Mary Rowlandson was a colonial American woman who was captured by Native Americans during King Philip's War and held for 11 weeks before being rescued.  After being ramsomed, she wrote A Narrative of the Captivity and Restoration of Mrs. Mary Rowlandson, a work in the literary genre of captivity narratives.
