Thrombopoietin regulates the differentiation of megakaryocytes and platelets.

Thrombopoietin affects some aspects of platelet production this include the self renewal of platelets done by stimulation of the proliferation of megakaryocyte progenitor cells and these support the cells into mature platelet-producing cells.
