I think that one reason for a lengthy constitution was for a set of rules to be followed and looked upon for a long time. One of the main documents, of the country (I think), it was lengthy for the country to follow and for others to look upon. Hope I managed to help, History is not often my forte. Sorry I couldn't go into depth
