The solution of the system of equations is (-3 , -2)

Step-by-step explanation:

Steps for Using Linear Combinations Method)

  • Arrange the equations with like terms in columns
  • Analyze the coefficients of x or y
  • Add the equations and solve for the remaining variable
  • Substitute the value into either equation and solve

∵ 3 x - 8 y = 7 ⇒ (1)

∵ x + 2 y = -7 ⇒ (2)

- Multiply equation (2) by 4 to make the coefficients of y are equal in

 magnitude and different in sign

∴ 4 x + 8 y = -28 ⇒ (3)

Add equations (1) and (3)

∵ 3 x - 8 y = 7 ⇒ (1)

∵ 4 x + 8 y = -28 ⇒ (3)

∴ 7 x = -21

- Divide both sides by 7

∴ x = -3

Substitute the value of x in equation (2) to find y

∵ x + 2 y = -7 ⇒ (2)

∵ x = -3

∴ -3 + 2 y = -7

- Add 3 to both sides

∴ 2 y = -4

- Divide both sides by 2

∴ y = -2

The solution of the system of equations is (-3 , -2)

How would you "remove the discontinuity" of f? In other words, how would you define f(5) in order to make f continuous at 5? f(x
satela [25.4K]

Given f(x) = [(x^2 -2x -15)/x-5], notice it is a rational function

But the numerator x^2 -2x -15 could be factored, which yields

(x – 5)(x + 3)

Therefore f(x) = (x – 5)(x + 3)/ (x-5)

Cancelling x-5, f(x)  = x + 3

In this way, the f(x) is continuous at any point, and is basically a line.

how much water must be added to a 6-liter solution that contains 7% extract of baneberry to get a solution that contains 5% extr
SpyIntel [72]

Answer:

the water to be added is 0.2 L

Step-by-step explanation:

The computation of the water to be added is given below:

The banberry amount is

= 7% of 6 Liters

= 0. 42L

Now

Let us assume the amount of water added be x L

So, the total solution is

=  6+ x L

Now percentage of banberry is

= 0.42 × 100 ÷ (6+x)

5 = 0.42 × 100 ÷ (9 + x)

9 + x = 9.2

x = 0.2 L

hence, the water to be added is 0.2 L
