Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

To tell if a graph is non-proportional check to see if the plotted points pass through the origin (0,0). If they do not, it is non-proportional

To tell if a table is non-proportional check to see if the ratio between the data sets are equivalent. If they are not, it is non-proportional.

To tell if an equation is non-proportional check to see if it has more than 1 operation. If it has more than 1 operation, it is non-proportional.

Example:

Proportional Equation: Y=5x\\

Non-Proportional Equation: y=5x+12

A proportional relationship runs through the origin and is a straight line. If you have a table, use the points to determine the slope. Is there one slope? If so, it is a proportion. If there isn't, it is not a proportional relationship (which is what you're looking for). Do you have a graphing calculator on hand? Those are extremely useful when you have an equation. Graph the equation and look at the image. Is it NOT straight? Does it NOT pass through the origin? This is how to find whether an equation is proportional or not.

If Alaska were divided into 10 equal pieces, then that means Florida would be the same size as one of those pieces. So write the equation 1,700.000 * \frac{1}{10}.

This is equal to \frac{1,700,000}{10}.

Now, when you divide a number by 10, the original number becomes one place value less. For instance, 2 ÷ 10 = 0.2.

We can see that 1,700,000 has 5 zeroes, so if you divide it by 10, the this means Florida is 170,000 sq km.

Hope this helped. :D
