Narrative exposition<span>, or simply </span>exposition<span>, is the insertion of important background information within a story; for example, information about the setting, characters' backstories, prior plot events, historical context, etc.

</span>In the rising action, a series of events build toward the point of greatest interest. The rising action<span> of a story is the series of events that begin immediately after the exposition (introduction) of the story and builds up to the climax.
</span>
Climax<span> is a structural part of a plot and is at times referred to as a crisis. It is a decisive moment or a turning point in a storyline at which the rising action turns around into a falling action.
</span>
Falling action<span> is defined as the parts of a story after the climax and before the very end. An example of </span>falling action<span> is act four in a five-act play.
</span>
resolution(aka the conclusion)<span>In the conclusion of a narrative essay, you impart your takeaway message, a lesson or a reflection -- a new discovery of meaning in life -- to your reader. A narrative essay is one of the many rhetorical modes in writing, such as description, comparison and contrast, definition, argument, evaluation, illustration, classification, cause and effect, process and analysis. But, for the conclusion to work, all parts of the narrative essay must build toward it.</span>

<span>the exposition is the idea or theory behind the book so "whats the book about"

a rising action is a series of events that build up to the climax so
example" he looked and looked for his dog.. but then he found his collar"

the climax is the turning point in his story
example" he found the dogs collar and tracks"

the falling action would be a conflict that unravels with the main character " the dog"
example would be like " he finally found the dog, "why did you leave spot"asked the boy
" cause you said you would get rid of him" said the tramp

the resolution would be the end of the story

"I am sorry spot" said the boy "i will never get rid of you"</span>

Which excerpt from The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street is an example of direct characterization?
SashulF [63]
<span>The screen door opens and Goodman comes out, a man in his early forties who first greets them smiling and then letting the smile fade as he sees the faces.

</span>

Direct characterization is when the author directly tells readers of some trait or characteristic of a character instead of letting readers conclude anything about a character based upon a character’s actions.  If we look at all of the possible answers for this question, all except speak of actions that lead readers to determine characteristics.  One, however, blatantly speaks of how old a person is.  With the words, “a man in his early forties,” the author directly tells readers about the character, thus, the second answer is an example of direct characterization.

Read the excerpt from The Stranger below and answer the question.
kvasek [131]

Answer:

This excerpt from <em>The Stranger</em> is an example of imagery. <u>The correct answer is the third one.</u>

Explanation:

Imagery is a literary device used for describing an object or a scene, or a feeling in order to create a defined image of it in the reader's mind. It means to use figurative language to represent objects, actions and ideas in a way that it appeals to our physical senses. In this excerpt, the writer describes the man with such detail that it is very easy for the reader to build a vivid image of the man in the reader's mind.
