A heparin drip (IV) has been ordered that contains 10,000 units of heparin in 1000ml of D5W (5% dextrose in water). The drip is

set to run at 50 ml/hr. How many units of heparin does the patient receive in 24 hrs? (Dimensional analysis)

Answer:

12,000 units of heparin are received by patient in 24 hours.

Explanation:

10,000 units of heparin in 1000ml of D5W.

Units of heparin in 1 mL = \frac{10,000}{1000}=10 units

Rate at heparin drip set at = 50 ml/hour

Units of heparin in 50 ml of solution = 50\teimes 10 units =500 units

500 units of heparin are received by patient in an every hour.So, in 24 hours patient will receive:

500units\times 24 = 12,000 units of heparin

12,000 units of heparin are received by patient in 24 hours.

When the reaction shown is correctly balanced, the coefficients are: kclo3 → kcl + o2?
notka56 [123]
From the balanced equation 2KClO3 → 2KCl + 3O2, the coefficients are the following:
coefficient 2 in front of potassium chlorate KClO3
coefficient 2 in front of potassium chloride KCl
coefficient 3 in front of oxygen molecule O2

We got this balanced equation by identifying the number of atoms of each element that we have in the given equation KClO3 → KCl + O2.
Looking at the subscripts of each atom on the reactant side and on the product side, we have
     KClO3 → KCl + O2
       K=1          K=1
       Cl=1         Cl=1
       O=3          O=2

We can see that the oxygens are not balanced. We add a coefficient 2 to the 3 oxygen atoms on the left side and another coefficient 3 to the 2 oxygen
atoms on the right side to balance the oxygens:
     2KClO3 → KCl + 3O2
The coefficient 2 in front of potassium chlorate KClO3 multiplied by the subscript 3 of the oxygen atoms on the left side indicates 6 oxygen atoms just as the coefficient 3 multiplied by the subscript 2 on the right side indicates 6 oxygen atoms.

The number of potassium K atoms and chloride Cl atoms have changed as well:
     2KClO3 → KCl + 3O2
       K=2            K=1
       Cl=2          Cl=1
       O=6           O=6

We now have two potassium K atoms and two chloride Cl atoms on the reactant side, so we add a coefficient 2 to the potassium chloride KCl on the product side:
     2KClO3 → 2KCl + 3O2, which is our final balanced equation.
        K=2           K=2
        Cl=2          Cl=2
        O=6           O=6
The potassium, chlorine, and oxygen atoms are now balanced.

In an ideal situation where no heat energy is produced, what is the relationship between the chemical energy provided by the bat
kow [346]

Answer:

See explanation

Explanation:

The principle of conservation of energy states that energy can neither be created nor destroyed but can be converted from one form to another. Hence, chemical energy in a battery can be converted to electrical energy.

Usually, the conversion of energy from one form to another is not 100% efficient according to the second law of thermodynamics. Some energy is wasted in the process, sometimes as heat.

Hence, in an ideal situation where no heat energy is produced; all the chemical energy is converted to electrical energy (100% energy conversion). There will be no energy loss if no heat is produced.

HgS + O2 → HgO + SO2
Igoryamba

Answer:

2HgS + 3O2 → 2HgO + 2SO2

The coefficients are: 2, 3, 2, 2

Explanation:

HgS + O2 → HgO + SO2

The equation can be balance as follow:

Put 3 in front of O2 as shown below:

HgS + 3O2 → HgO + SO2

Now we can see that there are 6 atoms of O on the left side of the equation and a total of 3 atoms on the right side. It can be balance by putting 2 in front of HgO and SO2 as shown below:

HgS + 3O2 → 2HgO + 2SO2

Now we have 2 atoms of both Hg and S on the right side and 1atom each on the left. It can be balance by putting 2 in front of HgS as shown below:

2HgS + 3O2 → 2HgO + 2SO2

Now the equation is balanced.

The coefficients are: 2, 3, 2, 2

The law of conservation of mass(matter) states that matter(mass) can neither be created nor destroyed during a chemical reaction but changes from one form to another. An unbalanced equation suggests that matter has been created or destroyed. While a balanced equation proofs that matter can never be created but changes to different form. This is the more reason we have count the atoms of an element on both side of the equation to see if they are balanced irrespective of the new form they assume in the product
