Answer:

The word missing in the blank is ''<u><em>semblance</em></u>''.

This text is an extract from the Scarlett Letter's introduction: ''The Custom House''.

Explanation:

In this paragraph, Nathaniel Hawthrone laments his recent, misdirected efforts in public office. This is because while he was serving as Surveyor of Salem Customs he was also trying to worked up the story of the book's protagonist. And this combination of factors led to what the author called his <em>''mistake'' </em>during the writing process.

<em>Therefore that he used the key word ''semblance'' to make others understand that things did not go as he hoped to. </em>

The initial increase in heart and breathing rates during the skin diving trip was probably a result of:
Reptile [31]

Answer:

A). Activation of SYMPATHETIC nervous system by new experience.

Explanation:

According to the studies, the initial increase in heart and the breathing rates at the time of skin diving trip was mainly an outcome of the 'activation of sympathetic nervous system due to the new experience'. The new experience causes a 'fight or flight response' that secretes 'adrenaline' and thus, it eventually end up in 'elevated pulse rates' and 'breathing' during the trip that indicates the activation of 'sympathetic nervous system'. Thus, <u>option A</u> is the correct answer.

How did the environment of the New England colonies affect the development of slavery in this region?
jeyben [28]
The environment of the New England colonies did not affect the development of slavery in this region. It did not affect the development of slavery because New England soil was not good for farming. Most slaves were used for farming, but since nobody owned a farm in this region, there was little need for slaves, period. Most of the New England region was industries and since the slaves would have to be taught how to do the job, the factory owners pretty much saw no purpose in even using slaves. Don't get me wrong, there may have been some parts of this region that WAS used for farming, but if there were any, it wasn't an abundant amount of them.

I hope this helps you out! Let me know if you need help with anything else! :)
