The feeling of fervent devotion toward one's nation above all others is known as CHAUVINISM.

Other people might immediately think that the statement refers to patriotism. They are partially right. However, there is a term that is used to indicate fervent devotion that is more than patriotism and it is chauvinism.

Patriotism is a noun meaning an emotional attachment of an individual to a nation whom he recognizes as his homeland. The term patriotism was taken from the term "patriot" which means "countryman". Patriotism refers to an individuals' proud feelings towards his nation; also known as, national pride.

Chauvinism, however, it the exaggerated version of Patriotism. An individual who exudes chauvinism believes that his nation is far more superior than other nations and will fervently defend the nations honor to the extent of acting belligerently towards those who do not share his views with regards to his glorious nation.
