Answer:

The Pullman strike occurred on May 11,1894 when 3000 employees of the Pullman Palace Car Company went on strike. Most of the workers of Pullman company were living in the company town where they were provided company owned houses and other facilities. They were charged for all these services and money owed by the workers to the company for the services was automatically deducted from their paychecks. The company was controlling all the aspects of worker's lives under a system known as debt slavery. They were in contract with the company. But during the economic slowdown of 1890's, the company cut their wages without decreasing the rent and other expenses which the workers were charged for living in the company town. It angered the workers and they went on strike. The strike could have been avoided by decreasing the rent and other expenses in proportion to the wage cut.
