Do you agree with Thomas Jefferson’s belief that building the Erie Canal was “little short of madness” for the time? Why or why
Blababa [14]

Thomas Jefferson’ comments on Eerie canal highlighted that he felt that it was impossible to complete such a huge project.

Explanation:

Thomas Jefferson who was a visionary and fore runners of the US Constitution had once commented that the construction of Eerie canal was a plan which is ‘little short of madness’. This reflected that he was totally not confident about the completion of the project and felt it to be impossible.

He felt it’s impossible because he had observed George Washington who is the fellow- Virginian also failed to complete the project of building a canal in the Potomac River. It was a canal that was successfully built for more than three hundred miles and all the credit was given to the New York governor Dewitt Clinton.

He initially faced criticisms and many felt it is the ditch which he made for himself for his own political downfall but times changed and the construction was carried on successfully.
