The multistage fitness test is aimed at determining the individual's VO2 max or the maximum oxygen intake. The test is identical to a shuttle run. The participant runs between the two blocks, which are twenty meters far from each other.

In the test, the individual or the participant needs to complete each length prior to a prerecorded beep sounds. With the continuation of the test, the beeps enhance in frequency. The test terminates when the individual fails to complete a section prior the sounding of the beep or if he or she completes all the runs.

The individuals then compare their finished levels with a chart to determine their maximum oxygen intake.
