Chemistry

Answer:

Explanation:

Given parameters:

Mass of CuCl₂  = 10.5g

Mass of Aluminium = 12.49g

Unknown:

Limiting reactant = ?

Solution:

The limiting reactant is the reactant given in short supply. Such reactant determines and controls the extent of the reaction.

Once they are used up, the reaction ceases to progress.

To find such reactant, we need to have a balanced reaction equation and the number of moles of the reactants:

     3CuCl₂   +    2Al     →   3Cu    +    2AlCl₃

number of moles = \frac{mass}{molar mass}

Molar mass of CuCl₂  = 63.5 + 2(35.5) = 134.5g/mol

Molar mass of Al  = 27

Number of moles of CuCl₂   = \frac{10.5}{134.5}  = 0.08moles

Number of moles of Al  = \frac{12.49}{27}  = 0.46moles

 From the balanced reaction equation;

         3 mole of CuCl₂ combined with 2 moles of Al

        0.08 mole of CuCl₂  will combine with \frac{0.08 x 2}{3}   = 0.05moles of Al

But the given amount of Al is 0.46moles which is in excess.

Therefore CuCl₂ is in the limiting reactant.

Why does the electrical conductivity of ionic compounds change when they are dissolved in water?
meriva
Ionic compounds conduct electricity when dissolved in water, because the dissociated ions can carry charge through the solution. Molecular compounds don't dissociate into ions and so don't conduct electricity in solution. Electrical conductivity of the compound in liquid form

If the volume of a cylinder is reduced from 8.0 liters to 4.0 liters, the pressure of the gas in the cylinder will change from 7
Elza [17]

Answer:

P₂ = 140 KPa

Explanation:

Given data:

Initial volume = 8.0 L

Final volume = 4.0 L

Initial pressure = 70 KPa

Final pressure = ?

Solution:

According to Boyle's law

P₁V₁ = P₂V₂

P₂ = P₁V₁  / V₂

P₂ = 70 KPa ×8.0 L/4.0 L

P₂ = 560 KPa .L / 4.0 L

P₂ = 140 KPa

What happens in the redox reaction below? Select all that apply.
vladimir2022 [97]

Answer:

B- Sodium loses an electron.

D- Fluorine gains an electron.

Sodium is oxidized.

Explanation:

The reaction equation is given as:

        Na  + F →  NaF

In this reaction, Na is the reducing agent. It loses an electron and then becomes oxidized. By so doing, Na becomes isoelectronic with Neon.

Fluorine gains the electron and then becomes reduced. This makes fluorine also isoelectronic with Neon.

This separation of charges on the two species leads to an electrostatic attraction which forms the ionic bonds.
