Answer:

y - x = - 2 b

Step-by-step explanation:

Given-

3 x + 2 y = 5 a + b...................(i)

4 x - 3 y = a + 7 b.....................(ii)

<em><u>Multiply by 3 and 2 in equation (i) & (ii) respectively-</u></em>

<em><u>Add equation (iii) &  (iv)-</u></em>

9 x + 6 y = 15 a + 3 a...................(iii)

<u>8 x - 6 y = 2 a + 14 b</u> ...................(iv)

17 x = 17 a + 17 b

<u>x = a + b</u>

Put x = a + b in equation (i)-

<em>2 y = 5 a + b - 3 a - 3 b</em>

<em>2 y = 2 a - 2 b</em>

<u>y = a - b </u>

<em>∴ y - x = a - b - ( a + b )</em>

<em>y - x = a - b - a - b</em>

y - x = - 2 b

A rectangular garden has dimensions of 100 feet by 10 feet. Next season, the garden is decreased to 2/5 of its size. What is the
mina [271]

Answer:

40 feet by 4 feet

Step-by-step explanation:

Given length (l) = 100 feet

width (w) = 10 feet

As mentioned in the question the size of garden is decreased to 2/5 of its size. <u>It will effect the length and width with the same proportion.</u>

So,

New length = 100 * 2/5 = 40 feet

New width  = 10 * 2/5 = 4 feet

Therefore, the scale of new drawing would be 40 feet by 4 feet

If f(x)=3x-2 and g(x)=2x+1,find (f-g)(x) <br><br> A. x - 3<br> B. 5x - 3<br> C. 3 - x<br> D. 5x - 1
Nady [450]

Answer:

A

Step-by-step explanation:

(f - g)(x)

= f(x) - g(x)

= 3x - 2 - (2x + 1)

= 3x - 2 - 2x - 1 ← collect like terms

= x - 3 → A

Here are some values of sequence Q. Write a recursive definition for the sequence.
Rashid [163]

Answer: Q(n) = Q(n - 1) + 2.5

Step-by-step explanation:

We have 3 values of the sequence Q(n)

These values are:

Q(1) = 3

Q(3) = 8

Q(7) = 18

I would think that this is a geometric sequence.

Remember that the equation for the n-th term of a geometric sequence is:

A(n) = A(1)*r^(n-1)

where r is a constant, and A(1) is the first term of the sequence.

If we rewrite the terms that we know of Q(n) in this way we get:

Q(3) = Q(1)*r^(3 - 1) = 3*r^2 = 8

Q(7) = Q(1)*r^(7 - 1) = 3*r^6 = 18

Then we have two equations:

3*r^2 = 8

3*r^6 = 18

We should see if r is the same for both equations:

in the first one we get:

r^2 = 8/3

r = (8/3)^(1/2) = 1.63

and in the other equation we get:

r^6 = 18/3

r = (18/3)^(1/6) = 1.34

Then this is not a geometric sequence.

Now let's see if this is an arithmetic sequence.

The n-th term of an arithmetic sequence is written as:

A(n) = A(1) + (n - 1)*d

where d is a constant.

If we write the terms of Q(n) that we know in this way we get:

Q(3) = Q(1) + (3 - 1)*d = 3 + 2*d = 8

Q(7) = Q(1) + (7 - 1)*d = 3 + 6*d = 18

We need to see if d is the same value for both equations.

in the first one we get:

3 + 2*d = 8

2*d = 8 - 3 = 5

d = 5/2 = 2.5

In the second equation we get:

3 + 6*d = 18

6*d = 18 - 3 = 15

d = 15/6 = 2.5

d is the same for both terms, then this is an arithmetic sequence.

An arithmetic sequence is a sequence where the difference between any two consecutive terms is always the same value (d)

Then the recursive relation is written as:

A(n) = A(n - 1) + d

Then the recursive relation for Q is:

Q(n) = Q(n - 1) + 2.5

What is the ratio of the intensities of an earthquake PP wave passing through the Earth and detected at two points 19 kmkm and 4
Tamiku [17]

Answer:

The ratio of the intensities is roughly 6:1.

Step-by-step explanation:

The intensity I() of an earthquake wave is given by:

I = \frac{P}{4\pi d^{2}}

<em>where P: is the power ans d: is the distance. </em>

Hence, the ratio of the intensities of an earthquake wave passing through the Earth and detected at two points 19 km and 46 km from the source is:

\frac{I_{1}}{I_{2}} = \frac{P/4\pi d_{1}^{2}}{P/4\pi d_{2}^{2}}

<em>where I₁ = P/4πd₁², d₁=19 km, I₁ = P/4πd₂² and d₂=46 km     </em>

\frac{I_{1}}{I_{2}} = \frac{d_{2}^{2}}{d_{1}^{2}}

\frac{I_{1}}{I_{2}} = \frac{46 km^{2}}{19 km^{2}}

\frac{I_{1}}{I_{2}} = 5.9:1

Therefore, the ratio of the intensities is roughly 6:1.

I hope it helps you!
