Researchers at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have been studying the decay pattern of a new virus with a decay r

ate of 22% per hour. They start with 500 viruses that they want to check on in the next 8 hours. How many viruses will they find in 8 hours? Round your answer to the nearest whole number.

Answer:

The researchers will find 86 viruses.

Step-by-step explanation:

Identify the value of each variable in the formula. Be sure to put the percent in decimal form. Be sure the units match—the rate is per hour and the time is in hours.

A =?

A0 =  500

R= -0.22/hour

t= 8 hours

Substitute the values in the formula.

A= A0e^rt

A= 500e^-0.22x8

Compute the amount.

A ≈ 86.02

Round to the nearest whole number.

A ≈ 86

Answer:

They will find 69 viruses in 8 hours.

Step-by-step explanation:

The number of viruses after t hours is given by the following equation:

V(t) = V(0)(1-r)^{t}

In which V(0) is the initial number of viruses and r is the decay rate, as a decimal.

They start with 500 viruses

This means that V(0) = 500

Decay rate of 22% per hour.

This means that r = 0.22

So

V(t) = V(0)(1-r)^{t}

V(t) = 500(1-0.22)^{t}

V(t) = 500(0.78)^{t}

How many viruses will they find in 8 hours?

This is V(8).

V(t) = 500(0.78)^{t}

V(8) = 500(0.78)^{8}

V(8) = 68.51

Rounding to the nearest whole number

They will find 69 viruses in 8 hours.

For each expression listed, is it a difference of squares? Explain yes or no and why or why not. Explain in enough detail so the
Harlamova29_29 [7]
<h2>Explanation:</h2><h2></h2>

If we can write a polynomial in the form a^2-b^2, then we can factor it as:

a^2-b^2=(a-b)(a+b)

In this problem, we have the following expressions:

1. \ y^5 - 25 \\ \\  2. \ 9m^2n^2-121  \\ \\ 3. p^{18} - q^{10} \\ \\ 4. 16r^2 - 27

  • For 1 and 4 we can't write this in the form a^2-b^2 so this is not a difference of squares.

  • For 2:

9m^2n^2-121 =3^2m^2n^2-11^2 \\ \\ =(3mn)^2-11^2 =(3mn-11)(3mn+11)

So we could write 2 as a difference of squares.

  • For 3:

p^{18} - q^{10}=(p^9)^2-(q^5)^2=(p^9-q^5)(p^9+q^5) \\ \\ \\ Remember: \ (a^m)^n=a^{mn}

So we could write 2 as a difference of squares.

As the general formular for a straight line is
y = mx + c

m represents the gradient
c represents the point at which the line crosses the y axis.
Therefore you simply plug the numbers into the equation.
y = 3x + 7

You can work out whether 2 lines are perpendicular by multiplying their gradients. The product of the gradient of perpendicular lines will always be -1.
If lines are perpendicular, M1× M2 = − 1
So you can rearrange the equation to get M2=-1/M1.
As they perpendicular they have to intercept at the same point on the Y axis therefore you get the equation
y =   -  \frac{1}{3}x + 7
