Two ocean beaches are being affected by erosion. The table shows the width in feet of each beach at high tide measured where 199

5 is represented by year 0.
A. Describe the patterns shown by the erosion data measurements shown for each of the beaches in the table.
B. Between which years will the beaches have approximately the same width?
C. Assuming these rates remain constant, what can you do to get a better approximation of when the two beaches will have the same width?

Answer:

A:linear function for both :

beach: y=-2x+100 (x=0, y=100)

dunes=5x+20 ( when x=0, y=20 (year1995)

B: after almost 11 years: it will be year 2006 and 2007 (after 11.429 years)

C: when the two rates of erosion are equal at the rate of 77 and almost 11 years

-2x+100=5x+20

-2x-5x=-100+20

-7x=-80

-80/-7=x

x=11.429

y=77.143

Find the nth term in the sequence
-6,-3,0,3,6
RoseWind [281]
First, determine what type of sequence the set of numbers make up. Through simple logic, it is an arithmetic sequence, because one can see by inspection that there is a common difference of 3 (positive 3, just to be a bit more pedantic).

We then use the formula, t_{n} = a + (n - 1)d
where t_{n} represents the n^{th} term; a represents the starting term (so the first number in the set of numbers, which in this case is -6); n is the term number (1st, 2nd, 3rd term, etc.); d is the common difference, that is, when you subtract the next term to the previous term – what is that numerical value.

To elaborate a bit more, your 1st term is -6, 2nd is -3, 3rd is 0, etc.

Also, the formula above is something you just learn, unless you learn to proof this formula, which is something different.

So, here, t_{n} = -6 + (n-1)3, which can be expanded to:
t_{n} = -6 + 3n-3
Therefore, t_{n} = 3n - 9

Lf 7 + 3x = 22. then 2x = ?
Sloan [31]

Answer:

2x = 10

Step-by-step explanation:

7 + 3x = 22

-7           -7

Subtract 7 from both sides (you are trying to get the variable alone, and to do that, you have to get every other number to 0. 7 - 7 = 0. BUT, whatever you do, you have to do to both sides.)

3x = 15

/3    /3

Divide both sides by three to get the variable alone.

x = 5

Now, plug in the value of x to the second equation and solve.

2(5) = ? --> 10

Hi. I need help with this.

PLEASE NOTE: already tried -0.125 x -2^4 but didnt work. thx
erik [133]

Answer:

-2

Step-by-step explanation:

First, when you plug in -2, you have to put parentheses around it which you probably didn't do which is why you got it wrong. First calculate (-2)^4 then multiply the product by the rest of the expression. (-2)^4= 16. Now multiply 16 by -0.125 which is equal to -2.

Snezhnost [94]
Hey there,

The geometric mean of 4 and 9 is \boxed{6}

Reason: The square root of the product of the both numbers.

The geometric mean of 4 and 9 is 6. 4 * 9. = 6
