A hemicolectomy is a procedure used for the purpose of surgery. It involves the removal of the segment of the intestinal colon. It is done to perform the colon cancer and for the treatment of bowel disease. Due the surgical procedure the damaged section of the colon is removed and the healthy part is reattached.

The preventive measures which can be taken to avoid the chances of postoperative pneumonia includes coughing, frequent repositioning, use of incentive spirometer and taking deep breath.
