A certain element has a half life of 2.5 billion years. a. You find a rock containing a mixture of the element and lead. You det

ermine that 45% of the original element remains; the other 55% decayed into lead. How old is the rock? b. Analysis of another rock shows that it contains 65% of its original element; the other 35% decayed into lead. How old is the rock?

Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

For a first order decay, fraction remaining = 0.5n where n = number of half lives elapsed.

fraction remaining = 55% = 0.55

0.55 = 0.5n

log 0.55 = n log 0.5

-0.2596 = -0.301 n

n = 0.8625 = # of half lives elapsed

0.8625 half lives x 2.5 billion years/half live = 2.16 billion years have elapsed = age of the rock

b)  0.15 = 0.5n

log 0.15 = n log 0.5

-0.824 = -0.301 n

n = 2.74 half lives

2.5 billion years/half life x 2.74 half lives = 6.85 billion years = age of rock

X + y - 6 = 0
Take out y.
x - 6 = 0
Add 6 to both sides.
x = 6 is your first equation.

x - y - 8 = 0
Take out y.
x - 8 = 0
Add 8 to both sides.
x = 8 is your second equation.

Help me friends write in copy<br>20 pts so don't spam
Irina-Kira [14]

Answer:

ii

Step-by-step explanation:

from what you've written in the comments I think this question requires you to find the equation that can be expressed in two variables,so the best way to do this is to solve the pairs as simultaneous equations and see the ones that will give you two answers x and y

if you solve the first pair you will have

x + y = 5

2x+2y=10

2(x + y =5)

1(2x+2y=10)

2x+2y=10

2x+2y=10--

now from this you will see that it cannot be expressed as two variables because the answer is just zero..

for the second equation it can be expressed as two variables

x - y = 8

3x-3y =16

3(x-y =8)

1(x-3y=16)

3x-3y=24

x - 3y=16

2x/2=8/2

x=4

x-y=8

4-y=8

-y=8-4

-y/-1=4/-1

y=-4...

so you see it can be expressed as two variables..

if you solve the third one it will also give you an answer which is zero so it can't be expressed as two variables.

and the fourth one also cannot.

I hope this helps and if you don't understand feel free to ask..and sorry if it's wrong

Find the equation of the line given the two points below<br><br> A(−3,−2) B(6,−8)
zlopas [31]

Answer:

y = -2/3x - 4

Step-by-step explanation:

Formula: y = mx + b

m (slope)

b (y-intercept)

Slope Formula: y2 - y1 ÷ x2 - x1

Substitute: -8-(-2) = -8+2 = -6

6-(-3) = 6+3 = 9

-6/9 (funny, I know)

Simplify --> -2/3

slope = -2/3

Substitute for the y-intercept --> to do this, we plug in a coordinate pair

-8 = -2/3(6) + b

-8 = -4 + b => add 4 to both sides

b = -4, and thus, our y-intercept is -4

Plug our values into the formula: y = mx + b

y = -2/3x + (-4)

simplify to get our final equation

y = -2/3x - 4

The graph of y=f(x) is shown below.<br> Graph y=1/2f(x)
san4es73 [151]

Answer:

The answer figure is attached in this answer.

Step-by-step explanation:

The graph shows that y always has positive value whether x is positive or negative.  Following observations can be drawn from the question figure.

  • When x is 0, y is also 0.
  • When x is 1, y is 2.
  • when x is 2, y is 4.
  • when x is -1, y is 2.
  • when x is -2, y is 4.

It means f(x) is a function of modulus function (|x|).

Let us provide definition of modulus function g(x):

g(x) = |x|=\left \{ {{x,   \   if\ x \geq0 } \atop {-x,\ if \ x < 0}} \right.

As we can observe that yis twice of |x|, so the graph given in the question figure represents

y= f(x) = 2|x|  \{ {-2\leq x}\leq 2 \}

So, we have to draw the graph of y = \dfrac {1}{2} f(x)

i.e. y = |x| \{-2\leq x \leq 2 \}

Please refer to the attached figure for the graph of y = \dfrac {1}{2} f(x)

Can somebody check to see if these are right? THANK YOU!!
PIT_PIT [208]
The first one should be x - y <= 25. Since there are 25 OR fewer available, depending on who is out sick or on vacation.
