Answer:

81 students went on the field trip.

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the Total number of students went on the field trip be 'x'.

Now Given;

Number of student went on Large bus = 54

We need to find the Total number of students went on the field trip

Solution:

Also Given:

two-thirds of the total participants road a large bus,

So we can say that;

Number of student went on Large bus is equal to two-third times total number of students went on field trip.

framing in equation form we get;

\frac{2}{3}x=54

Now Multiplying both side by \frac{3}{2} we get;

\frac{3}{2}\times \frac{2}{3}x=54\times \frac{3}{2}\\\\x=81

Hence 81 students went on the field trip.

Two numbers are in the ratio 3:7
Likurg_2 [28]

Answer:

98 or 18

Step-by-step explanation:

Let's call the numbers 3x and 7x. We have two cases, either 42 is 3x or 42 is 7x. Looking at the first case, if 3x = 42, x = 14 which means the other number is 7 * 14 = 98. Looking at the second case, if 7x = 42, that means x = 6 so the other number is 3 * 6 = 18.

Xelga [282]

Answer:

The expected number of days until prisoner reaches freedom is 12 days

Step-by-step explanation:

From the given information:

Let X be the random variable that denotes the number of days until the prisoner reaches freedom.

We can evaluate E(X) by calculating the doors selected, If Y be the event that the prisoner selects a door, Then;

E(X) = E( E[X|Y] )

E(X) = E [X|Y =1 ] P{Y =1} + E [X|Y =2 ] P{Y =2} + E [X|Y =3 ] P{Y =3}

E(X) = (2 + E[X])\dfrac{1}{2}+ (4 + E[X])\dfrac{3}{10}+ 1 (\dfrac{2}{10})

E(X) = (2 + E[X])0.5+ (4 + E[X])0.3+ 0.2

Solving for E[X]; we get

E[X] = 12
