Pure water is neutral. What is the appropriate justification for this? A. Water has equal H+ and OH- ions, making its pH 7, whic

h is considered a neutral pH. B. Water has more H+ than OH- ions, making its pH 5, which is considered a neutral pH. C. Water has more OH- than H+ ions, making its pH 8, which is considered a neutral pH.

The correct solution for this is explained the first option. Since water has an equivalent amount or number of H ions and OH ions, pure water itself is not slightly acidic nor basic. This equality of ions, causes the pH of water to be around the mid point of the pH scale which goes from 0 - 14, and thus is 7. This is a neutral pH.

Which of the following is a covalent compound?
V125BC [204]

Answer:

Water is a covalent compound.

Explanation:

covalent compounds are individual molecules characterized by the sharing of electrons between two or more atoms. Two atoms with similar electronegativity will not exchange an electron from their outermost shell; the atoms instead share electrons so that their valence electron shell is filled.

Example:

Examples of compounds that contain only covalent bonds are methane (CH4), carbon monoxide (CO), Water (H2O) and iodine monobromide (IBr).

Properties:

1. At room temperature and normal atmospheric pressure, covalent compounds may exist as a solid, a liquid, or a gas.

2. Covalent compounds do not exhibit any electrical conductivity, either in pure form or when dissolved in water.

3. Covalent compounds have lower melting and boiling points.

If you ever swam in a pool and your eyes began to sting and turn red, you felt the effects of an incorrect pH level. pH measures
Brilliant_brown [7]
Though there's no question in the statement above I would assume that you are asking about the pH of the water that is acidic. The correct statement would be:

Any liquid that has a pH less than 7 is called acidic, a pH above 7 is basic or alkaline.

The water in the swimming pool has a high acid concentration due to the chlorine which causes the effect of redness in the eyes.
