Answer:

The technique used by Alexander Pope in The R*pe of the Lock is mock-epic genre.

Explanation:

"The Ra-pe of the Lock" is a mock-epic (a technique used by Pope) poem written by Alexander Pope. Pope has written the verse in heroic couplets.

Pope named his poem as "an heroi-comical poem".

Mock-epic is a form of satire in which trivial matters or subjects are dealt in an elevated heroic style. <u>This dealing of the trivial matters in a heroic style creates the humor in this technique of mock-epic</u>. This genre does not mock the epics but rather the subject by giving it a form of epic.

<u>The poem deals with a true incident of trivial matter; the stolen locks of a young woman. Because of this conflict between two families started, which Pope resembled that of the war of Greeks and Trojan. </u>

Answer:

Alexander Pope uses the mock epic genre of writing in his poem.

Explanation:

The mock epic genre of writing is when the epics of the great writers, the epic heroes and elements of an epic are used or imbibed in a writing but in a sarcastic, mocking way. This is also another technique of satirical writing, intended to produce humorous result at the same time mocking the original subject.

The poem "<em>Ra pe of the Lock</em>" is one such mock epic poem. The story revolves around the 'ra pe" of a lock of hair when a lord assaulted a young maiden, cutting off her lock of hair without her permission. This true event based poem shows how an insignificant issue led to a huge uproar, thus leading Pope to show that men tend to take things out of proportion.

This parodic satirical form gave the humor of the whole issue. A hair is nothing but it seems the loss of that lock of hair seem is like someone losing virginity or even her life. the depiction of the nymphs and the fairy-like animals gave a more epic element in the poem, but also at the same time, brings forward the meaninglessness of the whole severity of the situation.

Answer:

The Anglo-Saxon traditions illustrated in Beowulf accurately represent the Anglo-Saxon traditions of the time period. This is accomplished through the distinct correlation of heroic characteristics between Beowulf and the culture’s traditional depiction of an Anglo-Saxon hero. Anglo-Saxons believed that, “to be a hero was to be a warrior” (Garcia). They…show more content…

Humbleness was also key for an Anglo-Saxon hero as it proved respectability and honor towards the hero. Anglo-Saxons wanted their hero to prove their strength and courage, however, they did not want the hero to become a dictator of any kind. Strong friendships were known as the most trustable alliances an Anglo-Saxon hero could form for battles (Trekker2392). It was key for an Anglo-Saxon hero to have the ability to create strong friendships around him. Beowulf perfectly identifies to all five of these main characteristics throughout the epic poem. Courage, bravery, and strength are three heroic Anglo-Saxon characteristics that tie together perfectly. Without courage, you will not have strength and bravery. Without strength and bravery, you will not have the courage to face your challenges. Anglo-Saxons believed three of these characteristics were perfectly interwoven in the ideal Anglo-Saxon hero (Garcia).
