The House of Burgesses was established on 31st July 2019 by Virginia governer Geroge Yeardly at Jamestown. It was the first legislative body in the US. In 1619 there were 11 settlements in Virginia and each settlement had 2 elected representatives. Some of the famous members of House of Burgess were George Washington, Patrick Henry, and Thomas Jefferson. The house lasted until the American Revolution.
The Louisiana Purchase of 1803 doubled the size of the United States, gave the country complete control of the port of New Orleans, and provided territory for westward expansion.
