Why do we know more about Ashoka than most ancient rulers?

I would think because in a way we can identify with Ahsoka rather than with ancient rulers. She lives in a time where technology is ahead of it's time but the world still has problems just like today. People tend to be interested in people like them and going through similar experiences and problems.
