A guild is an association of tradesmen or merchants who oversee the practice of their craft or trade in a particular area. Women mostly stayed home and very few received wages of any kind for services performed. Medieval guilds limited women's participation, and usually only the widows and daughters of known masters were allowed in the guilds.

Mostly the guilds were male dominant and women remained to assist men in making money by selling and buying inn the guilds. Even if a women entered the guild she was exempted in bearing any role or excluded totally from the guild offices.
