3(2x - 4) + x = 9<br> help with homework
natita [175]

6x - 12 + x = 9

6x + x - 12 = 9

Collect like terms

7x - 12 = 9

Add both sides 12

7x - 12 + 12 = 9 + 12

7x = 21

Divide both sides by 7

7x ÷ 7 = 21 ÷ 7

x = 3

Replace * with a monomial in such a way, that the trinomial becomes a perfect square. *+12x+1
Mrrafil [7]

Answer: * = 36x^2

Note: Im guessing you're here for rsm struggles. That's how I found this question. I searched the web for the answer to this rsm problem, but I couldnt find it. I was happy to find this brainly link, but annoyed to find it was unanswered. I did the problem, and now i'll help future rsm strugglers out. Thanks for posting this question.

Step-by-step explanation:

Ok, so we know that trinomials like this are squares of binomials. this in mind, we know that it can also be written as (x+y)^2. (also brainly's exponents feature used to be better, if the exponents are confusing you, comment.) Using the (x+y)^2 equation, you know that by simplifying it, you get x^2+2xy+y^2. Basically we're looking for x^2. Using the middle term, 2xy, or 12x in this equation, we can find x. since we know the square root of 1 is 1, we know 12=2x. This is kinda confusing, but basically since the answer is 6, we know that the x-term is 6x. We square 6x and get 36x^2. guaranteed to work on the rsm student portal, i'm in rsm and i just answered this question.

Hope this helps! Also, im not usually too active on brainly unless im looking for HW answers, so if you understand this explanation and you see a confused comment, help out a friend and answer it. Happy holidays!

At an ocean-side nuclear power plant, seawater is used as part of the cooling system. This raises the temperature of the water t
grandymaker [24]

Answer:

(a1) The probability that temperature increase will be less than 20°C is 0.667.

(a2) The probability that temperature increase will be between 20°C and 22°C is 0.133.

(b) The probability that at any point of time the temperature increase is potentially dangerous is 0.467.

(c) The expected value of the temperature increase is 17.5°C.

Step-by-step explanation:

Let <em>X</em> = temperature increase.

The random variable <em>X</em> follows a continuous Uniform distribution, distributed over the range [10°C, 25°C].

The probability density function of <em>X</em> is:

f(X)=\left \{ {{\frac{1}{25-10}=\frac{1}{15};\ x\in [10, 25]} \atop {0;\ otherwise}} \right.

(a1)

Compute the probability that temperature increase will be less than 20°C as follows:

P(X

Thus, the probability that temperature increase will be less than 20°C is 0.667.

(a2)

Compute the probability that temperature increase will be between 20°C and 22°C as follows:

P(20

Thus, the probability that temperature increase will be between 20°C and 22°C is 0.133.

(b)

Compute the probability that at any point of time the temperature increase is potentially dangerous as follows:

P(X>18)=\int\limits^{25}_{18}{\frac{1}{15}}\, dx\\=\frac{1}{15}\int\limits^{25}_{18}{dx}\,\\=\frac{1}{15}[x]^{25}_{18}=\frac{1}{15}[25-18]=\frac{7}{15}\\=0.467

Thus, the probability that at any point of time the temperature increase is potentially dangerous is 0.467.

(c)

Compute the expected value of the uniform random variable <em>X</em> as follows:

E(X)=\frac{1}{2}[10+25]=\frac{35}{2}=17.5

Thus, the expected value of the temperature increase is 17.5°C.
