Answer:

The required solution is x=\frac{98}{41}  and y =\frac{8}{123}.

Step-by-step explanation:

Given equations are

-x+6y = -2.......(1)

\frac87x-y=-2.......(2)

First we have to equate the coefficient of y or x. Here we equate the coefficient of y . So equation (2) multiply by 6.

Then the equation (2) becomes

\frac{8\times 6}{7}x-6y=-2\times6

\Rightarrow \frac{48}{7}x-6y=-12........(3)

Since the signs of y are is opposite, so we adding (1) and (2).

(-x+6y)+ \frac{48}{7}x-6y=-2-12

\Rightarrow -x+\frac{48}{7}x=-14

\Rightarrow \frac{-7x+48x}{7}=-14

\Rightarrow \frac{41x}{7}=-14

\Rightarrow x=\frac{-14\times 7}{41}

\Rightarrow x=\frac{98}{41}

Putting the value of equation (1)

-\frac{98}{41}+6y=-2

\Rightarrow 6y =-2+\frac{98}{41}

\Rightarrow 6y =\frac{-82+98}{41}

\Rightarrow y =\frac{16}{41\times 6}

\Rightarrow y =\frac{8}{123}

The required solution is x=\frac{98}{41}  and y =\frac{8}{123}

Lan Ventor designs a new board game and offers the design to Paddington Games p.l.c.
Andrej [43]

In order to make the offer attractive such that it would earn £25,000 for Ian Vector, Paddington Games would have to sell 460 games.

The game can be sold for £25,000 or for £2,000 and then a fee of £50 for every game sold.

In order for the amount to be the same, the amount from games sold will have to equal the difference between the £25,000 and the £2,000.

Difference is:

= 25,000 - 2,000

= £23,000

The <u>number of games to be sold</u> is:

= Difference / Amount per game

= 23,000 / 50

= 460 games

In conclusion, 460 games need to be sold to make the offer attractive.

The work of a student to solve the equation 2(5y − 2) = 12 + 6y is shown below:
jolli1 [7]
We know that Step 1 is correct, because it is just a restatement of the equation. Therefore, we can eliminate Step 1:

2(5y – 2) = 12 + 6y

In Step 2, the student tried using the Distributive Property. The Distributive Property can be written as one of the two following formulas:

a(b + c) = ab + ac
a(b – c) = ab – ac

In this case, we'll use the second formula. Substitute any known values into the equation above and simplify:

2(5y – 2) = 2(5y) – 2(2)
2(5y – 2) = 10y – 4

In Step 2, the student calculated 2(5y – 2) to equal 7y – 4. However, we have just proven that 2(5y – 2) is equal to 10y – 4.

The student first made an error in Step 2, and the correct step is:

Step 2: 10y – 4 = 12 + 6y

I hope this helps!
