1. Why did sugar thrive in the West Indies but not in the mainland English colonies?

History

The environment was better in the West Indies than in the English mainland colonies.

Sugar cane requires a hot tropical climate to grow and also needs a high number of workers who can tolerate the conditions.

The English mainland colonies ranged from current day Maine to Georgia, north to south, and the Atlantic coast to the Appalachian Mountains (east to west). In none of these areas was the weather warm enough for a long enough period of time to grow the sugar cane crop. The West Indies are in the Caribbean and their location provided the warm, tropical environment. Indigenous peoples were first used to work the crop but they were too familiar with the land and not all with the crop. African slaves were brought to the Caribbean to farm the sugar cane because they could tolerate the weather and were familiar with the crop.

The United States shouldn't have declared war against Mexico because it was its land and though not fully explored and populated the regionhad also Native American nations, an alternative buy be to buy or get agreements to explore the regions. A second reason is that it is a clearly example of a stronger nation preying on a weaker one, an atittude which many countries do not accept.

Counterargument: It was their right to keep their state and not invade and declare war because of land.

Even though some people think that it was their right to keep the land, one could argue that caudillo-like states, as in South America, could emerge and an elite would totally dominate the poorer on the exploration of the weath.

What strategies did Chinese immigrants and Mexican Americans use to resist discrimination and build strong communities?
melisa1 [442]

Back in the 19th century, Americans were moving farther west searching for lands and riches. When the Chinese immigrants, Mexican Americans and the white settlers collided, both Chineses and Mexicans had to deal with harsh discrimination in the quest for a better life. In order to build stronger communities, both ethnic groups decided to move into urban areas where their language and tradition had a chance to survive. While the Chinese relocated to cities such as San Francisco and banded together to provide social aid services, health facilities, education, and worship centers to their community. Mexican Americans also relocated to isolated neighborhoods in growing urban areas like Los Angeles. Even though, the Chinese and Mexican people still had to face discrimination in terms of pay and work conditions, they built stronger communities by sticking together and helping each other as they could.

If the government deregulates the airline industry then:
inn [45]
If the government deregulates the airline industry then less competition will be expected.

Bigger airlines will be able to offer more services to the public to the detriment of smaller airlines. Which may result to the bankruptcy of the smaller airlines or let smaller airlines merge with each other to compete with bigger airlines. Bigger airlines may also purchase by other airlines which ultimately result to a decrease in number of competing airlines.
