The primary African American Radical Republican organization in the southern United States was known as the league of America.  The League was founded in the North throughout the American Civil War as a consecrated club to strengthen the Union.  It was formally authorized in May 1863 when a well-known constitution was approved.  By the end of 1863, the League commanded nearly 72000 constituents in 4,564 chambers beyond the nation
