What will be the effect of placing a plant cell in a hypotonic solution?

Biology

Because plant cells have a rigid cell wall around them, they act differently than animal cells. When placed in a hypotonic solution, the cell will take in water and start to swell. However, the cell wall prevents it from bursting. It becomes turgid and the pressure inside the cell will increase until it is the same pressure as outside the cell.

Answer:

The cell will swell and explode

Explanation:

Due to the solute's concentration is bigger inside the cell, because of osmosis process, the solute will move from inside the cell to the outside, which is the hypotonic solution. Also, in the hypotonic solution, solvent concentration is bigger than solute concentration, so then by osmosis as well, the solvent (water) will move to inside the cell making it swell and explode.
