There are no other known systems that use coded information to do anything at all. And of course our genetic code causes the construction of programmable metabolic pathways that allow cells to adapt to their environment in real time, and epigenetics pathways that allow long term adaption. We don't compare biology to human engineered technology out of laziness but because it's the only known comparable phenomenon.
