1) x= Sally
x+5= Joe

In 15 years means to add 15 to Joe's age and that equals three times Sally's age (x).

(x+5) +15= 3x
x + 20=3x
20=2x
10= x

2) length= 2w+3
w= width

Perimeter= 2l + 2w
48= 2(2w+3) + 2w
48= 4w + 6 + 2w
48= 6w + 6
42= 6w
7=w

3) x= 1st integer
x+2= 2nd integer
x+4= 3rd integer

Since the integers are even, there has to be a difference of two between each one.
5x= 3(x+2) +14
5x= 3x +6 +14
2x= 20
x=10

x+4= third consecutive integer = 10 + 4= 14

ANSWER: 1) 10 (second choice); 2) 7 (second choice); 3) 14 (third choice)

Hope this helps!  :)

How do you prove that AM=1/2AB if what is given is M is the midpoint of line AB? 7 steps.
mestny [16]

because a midpoint mean middle so A----------M----------B

AM is 1/2 of AB as well as BM is 1/2 of AB

4------------5----------6 if 5 is the midpoint how much is between 4 and 5 and 5 and 6

We are going to fence in a rectangular field. If we look at the field from above the cost of the vertical sides are $10/f t, the
Brut [27]

Answer:

Dimensions are 350/9 ft and 17.5 ft

Step-by-step explanation:

We are given the cost per ft of all the 4 sides. Let the horizontal be x and the vertical be y.

Now, we will set up the constraint and equation that we are being asked to maximize.

Thus;

700 = 10y + 10y + 7x + 2x

700 = 20y + 9x

Maiking y the subject, we have;

y = (700 - 9x)/20

y = 35 - 9x/20

Now,area of a rectangle is: A = xy

Thus, A = x(35 - 9x/20))

A = 35x - 9x²/20

We can get the critical points by finding the derivatives and Equating to zero

Thus;

dA/dx = 35 - 0.9x

At dA/dx = 0,we have; x = 350/9

At d²A/dx², we have;

d²A/dx² = -0.9

This is negative, thus we will disregard and use the one gotten from the first derivative.

Thus, we will use x = 350/9 ft

Plugging this into the equation y = 35 - 9x/20, we have;

y = 35 - ((9 × 350/9)/20)

y = 17.5 ft

Discussion Explain why 2 < x < 6 can be considered the short method for writing the AND compound inequality x > 2 AND x
nataly862011 [7]
Its much shorter since you changed 2 inequalities into 1 and you made it be 2 in 1
