3. Why would a person be given a thiazide diuretic (e.g., bendroflumethiazide)?
Setler [38]

Answer: 3) thiazide diuretic (TD) helps one to urinate, usually given to people that need to flush out their kidneys, for many different reasons. Kidenys are vital in removing toxins from the body. 4) thiazide diuretic works by inhibiting the sodium/chloride cotransporter and decreases sodium reabsobtion causing and increase in fluid loss. Hypokalemia, a lower than normal potasium level in the body, is at risk for patients taking TD because sodium and potassium kind of contradict eachouther in the body. With too much sodium delivery, the potassium levels also get shrunk.

Explanation: hope this helps.
