Good morning!
The South’s white majority switched to the Republican Party.
As it was a measure initiated by the Democrats, the blacks began to vote in mass in that party. Southern whites, then, switched their membership from the Democrats to the Republicans.

A result of the Voting Rights Act of 1965 was that the South’s white majority switched to the Republican Party.

Further Explanations:

Voting Right act of United States was signed by President “Lyndon B. Johnson” on 6th August 1965 during civil rights movement. The act was ratified by the “Fourteenth and Fifteenth Amendments” securing the voting rights of the minorities. The act holds many provisions to regulate voting and prohibited any state and local government from applying any voting law increasing racial or lingual discrimination. It also enacted lingual provision to the electorates by providing them bilingual ballot.

After its enforcement, a gradual decrease in racial bigotry was recorded. Around two hundred thousand African Americans got registered for voting. Though it was initiated by Democratic Party and the White American was against it, the party became unpopular among the Whites citizens. The Whites got aligned to the Republicans while the Black American got aligned towards the Republicans.
